Seriously.
Literally.
Who actually likes doing laundry?
Who enjoys carrying around a wet, stinky towel after a workout?
Nobody.
And that’s the point.
This post is about how small operational details and amenities affect client retention, pricing, and profitability in personal training studios and gyms.
In the personal training and studio business, it’s the small, friction-removing details that often determine whether someone joins, stays, and happily pays more — or quietly goes somewhere else.
Amenities aren’t fluff.
They’re leverage.
In service businesses, this is called friction removal.
Small Conveniences Create Big Differentiation
Reducing friction increases retention, improves word-of-mouth, and supports higher price points without increasing marketing spend.
Offering the right mix of amenities can be the difference between:
- Attracting a client or losing them
- Retaining a member or watching churn climb
- Charging premium rates or competing on price
The best studios understand this instinctively.
I’ve watched a popular yoga studio build an authentic, fiercely loyal community at record speed by offering something incredibly simple: complimentary tea between classes.
That tea did more than hydrate people.
It gave members time and space to:
- Talk to each other
- Ask instructors questions
- Build real relationships with the studio
Community wasn’t marketed.
It was designed.
Why Towel Service Works (and Why I’ll Pay for It)
Every one of my favorite gyms and studios offers complimentary towel service.
And I’m happy to pay 10–20% more because of it.
To some owners, towels feel trivial.
To clients, they remove friction.
One less thing to pack.
One less thing to remember.
One less thing to manage after an already demanding day.
That’s value.
Some of the most forward-thinking studios go even further:
- Chilled cucumber or lemon water
- Clean, intentional presentation
- Thoughtful post-workout details
Refreshing. Premium. Effortless.
And yes — there are even gyms offering valet parking and concierge-style service.
They’re not selling workouts.
They’re selling ease.
Amenities Are Margin Multipliers
A towel service that costs a few dollars per client per month can justify a 10–20% increase in pricing when positioned correctly.
Here’s the part most trainers miss:
Amenities don’t just impress clients —
they justify higher prices.
When you solve common problems for your clients:
- Time
- Convenience
- Mental load
- Post-workout logistics
You earn the right to charge more.
Not because you’re greedy —
but because you’re useful.
Audit Your Business Like a Prospect
This exercise matters most for independent studio owners and personal trainers competing locally.
If you’re unsure whether your amenities are helping or hurting, do this:
Walk through your business step by step from a prospect’s perspective.
Ask:
- Where are the friction points?
- What feels inconvenient?
- What creates unnecessary effort?
- What could be handled for them instead?
This is the Client Experience Path.
Look at every key touchpoint:
- Arrival
- Check-in
- Training
- Post-workout
- Departure
Do you have the best, most desirable solution in place at each moment?
If not, that’s an opportunity.
Convenience Wins When Everything Else Is Equal
Location matters — but only to a point.
If a prospect has five gyms within similar driving distance, they will choose the one that:
- Makes their life easier
- Requires less thinking
- Feels more intentional
Nine times out of ten.
When price and distance are similar, convenience becomes the deciding factor.
Final Word
If your clients share a common problem or desire — and you can solve it — do it.
Design it properly.
Charge accordingly.
Reap the benefits.
Sometimes the fastest way to grow your business isn’t a new program, a new ad, or a new offer.
Sometimes…
You just need to throw in the towel.
